Financial assistance is now available to downtown Bettendorf business owners for buildings needing renovations through the Facade & Interior Grant Program managed by the Downtown Bettendorf Organization. Grants are available to any business or property in the downtown’s Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District (SSMID).
The facade grants cover projects that improve the value of the building and make it more attractive. Interior grants cover improvement projects that are permanent.
Examples of eligible projects include, but are not limited to, historic window replacement, brick tuckpointing, permanent awnings, painting, doors, lighting, landscaping, parking lot construction and permanent signage infrastructure. The program is not intended to fund routine building maintenance such as roof repair or business expenses such as signage. All improvements must permanently remain with property.
Both property and business owners can apply. Business owners who rent the property must have the landlord’s permission to make the improvements.
Applicants can apply for up to $15,000 or 50% of the project’s total cost, whichever is less.
Applications are managed by the DBO Façade and Interior Grant Committee which meets quarterly to review submissions. Projects and committee decisions will be shared with the DBO Board of Directors. The total grant funding available is determined by the annual DBO budget (fiscal year is July 1 – June 30).
